Questions about tufting guns
Not sure which tufting gun suits you? Here's how our three models differ.
Which tufting gun is right for beginners?
If you're just starting out, choose a tufting gun that can do both cut pile and loop pile. With the AK-DUO PRO you swap the cut-pile scissors for a loop-pile needle, so you don't have to decide yet which technique you like best. Want to have everything at home in one go? This gun is also included in the tufting starter set, together with tufting cloth and a frame.
What is the difference between cut pile and loop pile?
With cut pile, the tufting gun cuts through every loop. This gives you a soft, full pile of loose strands. With loop pile, the loops stay intact: that gives a firmer pile with more structure, great for crisp lines and patterns. The AK-DUO PRO can do both; the AK-V PRO is made for cut pile.
What is the difference between the AK-DUO PRO, the AK-V PRO and the High-Pile?
The AK-DUO PRO tufts cut pile and loop pile, at 5 to 30 stitches per second with a stitch length of 8 to 18 mm. The AK-V PRO is a cut-pile gun with a brushless motor that runs almost silently, at 5 to 40 stitches per second. The AK-DUO High-Pile is made for high-pile rugs: you set the pile height from 30 to 45 mm.
Is there a quiet tufting gun?
Yes. The AK-V PRO has a brushless motor, so it runs almost silently. The digital display shows your speed, and a light on the front shows where your stitch will land. If you want to tuft loop pile as well as cut pile, take a look at the AK-DUO PRO.
Can I tuft high pile with a tufting gun?
The AK-DUO PRO and the AK-V PRO can be set from 8 to 18 mm. For a high-pile rug, or a 3D effect with high and low areas, you need the AK-DUO High-Pile: it tufts a pile of 30 to 45 mm. A higher pile uses more wool. Use the wool calculator to work out how much in advance.
Does a tufting gun come with a warranty?
Yes. All our tufting guns come with a 2-year warranty. In the first year after purchase, maintenance is also free: adjustment, parts and labour. You keep your gun running smoothly by cleaning it regularly and lightly oiling the moving parts with tufting gun oil. Read more about warranty and service under general information.
