Tufting Frame

Your tufting gun only works well when the cloth is stretched tight. With slack cloth, the yarn won't stay in place properly. The tufting frame keeps your primary cloth under tension with carpet grippers, so your gun moves smoothly through the material. The frame is suitable for tufting guns, punch needles and all types of primary tufting cloth.

The tufting frame comes in four versions, measured on the inside: a tabletop frame of 90 x 90 cm and standing frames of 90 x 90, 140 x 90 and 140 x 140 cm. You use the tabletop frame on a table, and it takes up little space. A standing frame is free-standing, which works well for larger rugs. Not sure? Read which tufting frame you need.

Leave 15 to 20 cm of space on each side between your design and the edge of the frame. For a 60 x 60 cm rug, a 90 x 90 cm frame is just right. Making a runner or a larger rug? Choose 140 x 90 or 140 x 140 cm. Just starting out? The tabletop frame is also included in the tufting starter set.

Your frame is ready in about 30 minutes. The box contains the frame parts, carpet grippers, screws and bolts, reinforcement brackets, a screwdriver and instructions. With a power drill, assembly is even easier. Then you stretch your cloth onto it. With a fabric stretcher that goes more evenly, and your fingers stay away from the sharp strips.

Yes. With four sturdy wooden beams and carpet grippers you can build a frame yourself. Use beams of at least 4 x 4 cm, otherwise the frame will warp when you stretch the cloth. One pack contains 5 strips of about 30 cm. Would you rather start tufting than start hammering? Then choose a ready-made tufting frame.

Yes. The carpet grippers (gripper strips) are sold separately, handy if you want to replace strips or extend a frame. They are 2.5 cm wide and about 30 cm long per strip; the length can vary slightly, between 27 and 32 cm. You'll find them together with binding tape under edge finishing and grippers.
